Tennessee’s tax laws are getting more favorable every year. The state does not tax individual wage income earned by its residents. The gift tax was repealed January 2012. The estate tax was repealed January 2016. Now, the only tax left is the Hall tax and it will be repealed January 2022. Thereby, making the state more friendly to business and helping retirees to feel more financially secure.
The Tennessee Promise Scholarship was established in 2014 and is seen as a landmark scholarship program allowing students tuition-free college. It has been a program that has set an example to be emulated by other states. Tennessee Promise is an expansion to a statewide effort from a local program that began in 2008 and had great success originally in Knoxville. The state of Tennessee was the first state in the country to offer tuition-free community college to all of its high school graduates. A program allowing adults to enroll tuition-free became available in 2018 known as Tennessee Reconnect.
There are more than 30 miles of interconnected trails along the East Lakeshore Trail along the shore of Tellico Lake with plenty of primitive camping spots along the way for those who want to make a multi-day excursion. East Lakeshore Trail is currently the longest National Recreation Trail in TVA system.
The Tennessee Valley Authority has control over most of shoreline on Tellico Lake. Not only is the TVA in control of the lake levels, they also control any development, construction or changes to property fronting on Tellico Lake. Property owners must obtain permission via a 26-a permit in advance of any changes. This would included shoreline clearing, rip-wrap, docks or other permanent structure.

Knoxville is a land that has the best of both worlds, four distinct seasons but none of the ugly extremes. It falls in what is known as a temperate climate zone with an average January low temperature of 30 degrees and an average high of 47. At the other end of the thermometer, are our warm Julys with an average low of 69 degrees and an average high of a toasty 88. Relative humidity also does not reach so high as to feel like a steam bath. It is just enough to keep the skin moist as if for a pleasant facial. Rainfall manages a relatively even distribution throughout each month. The year-end total averages about 48 inches. Snowfall will be sparse and generally will only come in a couple short episodes a year.
